How happy is your garden? Let's talk companion planting.

Planting different plants together can often improve yields, keep pests away and promote a much healthier ecosystem in the garden. Whether you’re a seasoned green finger or took up gardening as a hobby during lockdown, we’ve put together some tips on how to get the most out of your garden!

One of the most popular forms of companion planting is called intercropping. As the name may suggest, it involves planting different plants together in the same bed or row. Planting beans with corn for example, will provide natural support for the corn as the beans climb the corn stalks, while the corn provides shade for the beans. As an added bonus, the beans will also boost nitrogen in the soil!

Another form of companion planting is called trap cropping where a specific plant is used to keep pests away from other plants. Often, avid gardeners will plant radishes around a vegetable garden to keep aphids away.

Whether you’re looking to attract more bees to pollinate your plants, increase yields, or even improve your soil health, this is your sign to go buy some leafy friends for your garden. You’ll be making the most of your gardening space while improving the health of your plants.
